A health systems expert says our hospitals will survive a surge in Covid cases -- but a price will be paid by the public

There are 71 new community cases in Auckland today, including 28 mystery cases.
Infections are expected to double over the next weeks -- despite Auckland spending more than two months in lockdown.
An Auckland University Emeritus Professor claims the impact on hospitals could be similar to during flu season in winter.
Des Gorman says the level of sickness required to visit hospital or ICU will go up.
He says the system will cope - but there will be avoidable deaths, particularly among the elderly, and care for illnesses like cancer will be delayed.
