Changes to housing consent rules will open the door to more options for buyers

A new bipartisan Bill, which aims to boost housing supply, will allow up to three homes up to three storeys high to be built on most sites, without the need for resource consent.
Currently, district plans typically allow for one home of up to two storeys.
CoreLogic chief property economist Kelvin Davidson says increasing density will serve population growth, and the new style of housing people want to live in.
He says they've seen a shift towards townhouses and apartments for firsthome buyers.
