A Kiwi man claims he changed the dates on a previous MIQ letter he hadn't used after a string of emergency applications were rejected.
He was unable to stay in the United Arab Emirates due to his visa expiring after being made redundant and was desperate to get home.
The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment says it was an isolated incident.
However, NZME didn't name the man when enquiring and were instead given the details of another traveller without an MIQ booking who was sent to Rotorua and fined three-hundred-dollars instead.
