The Black Caps and India start the second and deciding test of the series from 5pm.
John Wright captained his country to their second and most recent test triumph 33 years ago in the city.
He's also coached India and the Mumbai Indians at the ground numerous times.
Wright has advised to play a third pace bowler in the form of Neil Wagner rather than a third spinner on a pitch he says will bounce and turn more than elsewhere in the country.
He has also recalled how the name for his autobiography came to fruition courtesy of the then-manager when the side was struggling in their first innings of the 1988 win.
Wright's tome revealed his team celebrated heading into the rest day with just three wickets required.
That included velocity testing of Kiwi Lager cans from several storeys up at the hotel - Wright concluded the participants failed to extend the frontiers of scientific knowledge.
