Police in Northland say they have been pleased with the high level of compliance by those travelling through the Covid-19 checkpoints

Officers have been working with iwi and Te Tai Tokerau border control to make sure travellers are either fully vaccinated or have a recent negative test.
Police say only a very small number of vehicles have been turned away.
Following this weekend, Northland police will be transitioning to spot checkpoints instead of the current fixed checkpoints on State Highways One and 12
There will also be regular roving patrols across Northland focusing on the most at risk areas.
Those who have travelled to Northland from Auckland without adhering to restrictions can expect to face a fine.
