Heavy rain is battering the Taranaki region, with one weather station recording a month's worth of rain in just four hours

The rainfall, which followed flooding on the South Island's West Coast earlier in the week, has closed roads, downed trees and caused slips.
MetService reports 138mm of rain fell at Cape Egmont between 6 and 10 this morning - as much as New Plymouth would have in a typical July.
In Rahotu, 50km south of New Plymouth, the town hall has flooded and sewage and fuel can be smelt in the streets.
State Highway 45 between Okato and Opunake is closed, with a detour in place.
Civil Defence reports slips on SH3 at Mount Messenger and south of Hawera, though those roads remained open.
