Mike Sandle is understood to have resigned his post as New Zealand Cricket team manager to take up the vacant chief executive role at Taranaki Rugby

Any such move would be a homecoming of sorts, given that's where his sports management career began.

He has been part of the Black Caps backroom staff since July 2011, overseeing a complete rejuvenation of the national side during that period, culminating in claiming the inaugural world test championship last year.

Originally from a farming background, Sandle also spent 24 years in the police, including work in gang intelligence and as a dog-handler in the armed offenders squad.
