    A reminder to Wellingtonians not to stop on a motorway as commuters flock to Transmission Gully


    The 1.25 billion dollar stretch of road officially opened to traffic this morning.

    Police say overall they're pleased with motorists' behaviour, but a small number of infringement notices have already been issued.

    They say it's understandable people will want to look around while they drive on the new stretch of road, but are urging people to remain focused and not to stop.

    There'll be an ongoing police presence on the motorway to ensure people are travelling safely.
