Chocolate is toxic to dogs -- alongside raisins, currants and sultanas found in traditional hot cross buns.
Southern Cross Pet Insurance paid more than 75-thousand dollars in chocolate and raisin-related claims last year, for 288 dogs and one curious cat.
It says owners should stash their goodies in high cupboards and keep them well-hidden from pets.
