Open Justice reports nearly half the sum was awarded for the "hurt and humiliation" Paul Tulafono was subjected to when he was suspended from work and eventually fired.
He worked for Combined Road and Traffic Services and was returning a company vehicle to a yard in early 2019, when he crashed into another car.
The Employment Relations Authority found afterwards, Tulafono was told there was no work available and served a termination notice which was unjust.
