A record dry April is stretching into May's first week
2 May 2022
MetService says a large, slow-moving high pressure system was key to the driest April in more than 30 years in parts.
Taupo's airport weather station last recorded such arid weather in 2005 - and for Palmerston North it was record breaking.
Hamilton had its third driest April, and Whanganui its second driest.
This week's maximum daytime temperatures will be mostly warm nationwide.
The main exception is a front affecting the West Coast today - expected to quickly pass.
