A Climate Action Budget will be officially adopted by Auckland Council today
29 June 2022
The plan was backed by a majority of councillors at a meeting yesterday - and will enable more than one-billion dollars of investment to slash emissions across the city.
The funding will pay for new bus routes, dozens of electric and hydrogen buses, low-emissions ferries, improved footpaths, cycling connections and native tree planting.
It will be partly paid for by a Climate Action Targeted Rate - costing a person with a home worth more than one-million dollars about 60-dollars a year.
Mayor Phil Goff says the plan will lay the groundwork for the urgent action needed to avert a climate disaster.
