The Spanish driver conquered the rain and the field at Silverstone in his Ferrari to earn his first career pole - in his 150th start.

Teammate Charles Leclerc - who claimed six of Ferrari's seven poles in 10 races this season, will start third, ahead of Sergio Perez in the second Red Bull.

Seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton qualified fifth for his home race - Mercedes teammate George Russell was eighth.
