The rescue crew who flew to the scene of a light plane crash in the Southern Alps believes it was unsurvivable

It went down during a flight between Franz Josef and Rangiora yesterday, with one person on board.
A plan to reach the plane was formulated overnight, but has been put on hold due to weather.
Winds around Mount Nicholson are expected to reach up to 150 kilometres an hour, well above a safe operating level for helicopters.
Canterbury Westpac Rescue Helicopters Senior pilot Stu Farquhar says after speaking to the crew it was obvious from the wreckage site there were no survivors.
