Takaka woman Tracey Smith died from hypothermia while tramping with her son in Nelson Lakes National Park in 2019.
The New Zealand Mountain Safety Council says recommendations adopted by Coroner Meenal Duggal highlights many common factors trampers face.
This includes the critical decision not to turn back once conditions became impassable.
Duggal says Tracey Smith's death is an extreme example of how poor decisions can snowball - and in the worst situations become life-threatening.
