A Coroner has ruled a Marlborough man died not from the crash he was involved in, but the antifreeze he drank afterwards

Open Justice reports Pryor Alan Lee died from a buildup of acid in his kidneys after swallowing liquid from the coolant bottle which fed into his ute's radiator.

Lee crashed down a bank in 2019 on Te Towaka-Port Ligar Road - an unsealed road that connects the outer Marlborough Sounds with the Rai Valley.

He walked to a nearby house, describing an intense thirst which had driven him to drink the antifreeze.

Senior Constable Simon Burbery says the district council should consider installing reflective roadside marker posts.
