    Marine Weather Situation and Forecast issued at 0130hrs Sunday 21-Apr-2024 by MetService

    Situation:
    A low pressure system slowly moves eastwards away from the North Island on Sunday. Meanwhile, a series of weak cold fronts move north over the South Island and dissipate Sunday through Monday. A ridge of high pressure otherwise builds over Aotearoa/New Zealand on Monday. A front reaches the far south late Tuesday, then weakens on Wednesday, followed by a couple of weak troughs over the South Island.

    Forecast issued at 2252hrs Saturday 20-Apr-2024
    Valid to 1 am Sunday for Wellington Harbour and the south coast from Sinclair Head to Baring Head.
    Sunday: Variable 5 knots. Southerly 10 knots developing this morning, rising to 15 knots for a time this afternoon. Easing to variable 5 knots this evening. Sea slight. Cloudy periods with the chance of one or two showers. For the South Coast and Palliser Bay - Southerly swell 1 metre. For Castlepoint - Southerly swell 1 metre, rising to 1.5 metres. Easterly swell half a metre.

    Outlook until midnight Wednesday:
    Monday: Variable 5 knots, becoming southeast 10 knots in the morning. Partly
    cloudy. For the South Coast and Palliser Bay - Southerly swell 1
    metre rising to 2 metres. For Castlepoint - Southerly swell rising to
    1.5 metres.
    Tuesday: Southeast 10 knots, turning northerly 10 knots early, rising to 25
    knots later. Fine. For the South Coast and Palliser Bay - Southerly
    swell 2 metres easing to 1.5 metres. For Castlepoint - Southerly
    swell 1.5 metres, rising to 3 metres, then easing to 2 metres.
    Wednesday: Northerly 25 knots, easing to 15 knots for a time. Fine. For the
    South Coast and Palliser Bay - Southerly swell 1.5 metres, easing to
    1 metre. For Castlepoint - Southerly swell 2 metres, easing to 1
    metre.
