    Marine Weather Situation and Forecast issued at 1135hrs Friday 10-May-2024 by MetService

    Situation:
    A cold south-southwest flow affects Aotearoa/New Zealand. This flow eases on Saturday as a ridge of high pressure builds in from the west. This ridge begins to move away to the east on Tuesday as a front approaches the far south late in the day.

    Forecast issued at 1102hrs Friday 10-May-2024
    Valid to 11 am Friday for Wellington Harbour and the south coast from Sinclair Head to Baring Head.
    Strong wind advisory.
    Friday: Variable 5 knots. Becoming southerly 15 knots but 20 knots about the south coast this afternoon. Southerly rising to 25 knots gusting 35 knots but 30 knots gusting 40 knots about the south coast early evening, then easing to 20 knots everywhere late evening. Sea becoming rough for a time. Fine, becoming cloudy with fair visibility in a few showers this evening. For the South Coast and Palliser Bay - Southwest swell 2 metres easing to 1.5 metres for a time. For Castlepoint - Southwest swell 2.5 metres.
    Saturday: Southerly 20 knots easing to 15 knots in the morning, to 10 knots in the afternoon and then to variable 5 knots in the evening. Moderate sea easing in the morning. Partly cloudy with fair visibility in a few showers, becoming fine in the evening. For the South Coast and Palliser Bay - Southerly swell 2 metres, rising to 3.5 metres for a time. For Castlepoint - Southwest swell 2.5 metres, rising to 4 metres for a time.

    Outlook until midnight Tuesday:
    Sunday: Variable 5 knots, becoming northerly 10 knots in the morning. Cloud
    clearing. For the South Coast and Palliser Bay - Southerly swell 2.5
    metres, easing to 2 metres. For Castlepoint - Southerly swell 3
    metres easing to 2 metres.
    Monday: Variable 5 knots, becoming southeast 10 knots for a time later. Fine.

    For the South Coast and Palliser Bay - Southerly swell 2 metres,
    easing to 1.5 metres for a time. For Castlepoint - Southerly swell 2
    metres.
    Tuesday: Northerly 10 knots developing early, rising to 20 knots later. Cloud
    clearing. For the South Coast and Palliser Bay - Southerly swell 2
    metres, rising to 2.5 metres for a time. For Castlepoint - Southerly
    swell 2 metres, rising to 3 metres for a time.
