A Kapiti man who murdered his ex-girlfriend after she broke up with him has been jailed for life with a minimum non parole period of ten years

Brian McConachie appeared in the High Court at Wellington this morning, having earlier pleaded guilty to killing Irina Scantee in a brutal attack last year.

A police summary of facts says McConachie became fixated on his victim in the weeks after the break up, until he eventually cut her throat outside a house in Paraparaumu Beach.
