Significant Weather Statement Cyclone Tam to the west of the country brings strong northeasterlies and heavy rain to parts of northern and central New Zealand.
Northland to Taranaki, including Coromandel Peninsula, Bay of Plenty, Taumarunui and Taupo Periods of rain or showers, sometimes heavy, with thunderstorms possible.
Gisborne and Hawke's Bay Scattered rain, clearing early morning and becoming mainly fine.
Whanganui and Taihape to Wellington, also Wairarapa Mainly fine. Isolated showers clearing early, but returning this afternoon or evening.
Marlborough and Nelson Periods of rain or showers, heavy at times, with thunderstorms possible west of Motueka, easing late.
Buller to Fiordland Scattered rain, possibly heavy.
Canterbury, Otago and Southland Mostly cloudy, with patchy rain or drizzle clearing for a time this morning and afternoon, with fine breaks inland.
Chatham Islands Cloudy, with rain developing tonight.
