    Tough times for Far North businesses... after the closure of a major road


    State Highway 1 near the Mangamuka Gorge has shut while crews repair slip damage.

    Kaitaia business association chair, Andrea Panther, says businesses have higher freighting costs, and have lost customers.

    She says the closure has isolated the area.

    Repairs are expected to take three weeks.
