This time it's fire in Westport, rather than floods

This time it's fire in Westport, rather than floods

Crews from around the West Coast have been fighting a blaze in a single-storey backpackers hostel on Russell Street, since about 2.30 this morning.

The building was occupied but everyone inside appears to have made it out safely without injury.

Seven fire crews from Westport, Waimangaroa, Reefton, Granity and Greymouth are still working to extinguish the blaze.

A fire investigator will attend the fire this morning, but first indications are that it is not suspicious.
