A call for Waikato residents to stay within their new boundary, for the good of the country

A call for Waikato residents to stay within their new boundary, for the good of the country

The Alert Level Three border's been extended further south, following five more Covid-19 cases being detected in the region yesterday.

It now covers the Waitomo District, including Te Kuiti, as well as Waipa and Otorohanga Districts.

It's the conventional Level Three, not the current restrictions in Auckland.

There's not enough resources for a checkpoint on every road at the boundary, but police will still be patrolling.

Otago University epidemiologist Michael Baker says it's vital people don't leave the region for reasons that aren't permitted.

He says it's not fair to put other parts of New Zealand at risk, and this is the only way we'll contain the outbreak.
