New Zealand First leader Winston Peters says the Government needs to be more up-front with people about how a Covid-19-positive woman got to Northland

New Zealand First leader Winston Peters says the Government needs to be more up-front with people about how a Covid-19-positive woman got to Northland

The woman's now in MIQ in Auckland, after testing positive for the virus, following visits to Whangarei, Kamo, Kawakawa, and Paihia.

The former Deputy Prime Minister told Newshub Nation reliable sources have told him the woman was taken there by a life Mongrel Mob member from Hawke's Bay, via Auckland using false documents.

He says the media was told last night by Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins he didn't know about any gang links.Peters says we won't get through this crisis unless the Government's honest and transparent with the New Zealand people.

He says the woman engaged with people at a hotel in Whangarei then hid at a marae.

Peters claimed the gang leader who accompanied the woman was HarryTam but Tam has denied any involvement.

Tam was recently one of those granted a special exemption by the government to travel to Auckland to encourage gang members to get vaccinated.
