A late-night blaze in a Greymouth tyre stockpile is being treated as suspicious

A late-night blaze in a Greymouth tyre stockpile is being treated as suspicious

More than 26 firefighters were called to control the fire at Aratuna Freighters about 10pm yesterday.

It took crews three hours to control the fire.

Greymouth chief fire officer, Lee Swinburn, says the flames emitted significant toxic fumes, but there's no risk to the public.

He says all residue and materials remained on site and there's been no spillage into waterways.
