Heavy rainfall and flooding has closed roads and a primary school in Wellington

Heavy rainfall and flooding has closed roads and a primary school in Wellington

Block Road in Melling is completely closed, and drivers are being asked to avoid it.

Paremata Primary school is also closed for the day.

There's surface flooding on the highway at the North Manakau turnoff, on Rimu Road in Paraparaumu and on Grays Road in Plimmerton.

Drivers are also reporting potholes have opened on the Southbound lanes at Mackay's Crossing, and crews are already at work.

The Wellington City Council is working to clear storm water outlets in Seatoun - with flooding on Mantell and Burnham streets.

Contractors are working to clear the water - but the high tide is making access difficult.

A Wellington City Council spokesperson says the water is knee deep in some areas.
