The weather might take a couple of days to play ball as New Year celebrations ramp up

It was a wet start to the festival season yesterday, with 8.4 millimetres of rain in 12 hours near Hagley park, as thousands attended the Hidden Lakes festival.

Rhythm and Alps in Wanaka kicks off today, with one or two light showers expected this afternoon, and a high of 22.

But, MetService Forecaster Tuporo Masters says hot weather is on its way.

He says people in Wanaka can expect temperatures in the high 20's on Saturday - possibly reaching 32 on Sunday.
