Two people are being treated by paramedics, after surviving a night in their car that'd crashed off a bank at Springs Junction, in the mid-north South Island

Emergency services were called to the scene around 9.30 this morning, but believe the crash happened yesterday.

Police have confirmed two people spent the night in the car, as temperatures dropped below zero.

A St John spokesperson says the pair are injured - one seriously and the other, moderately.

State Highway 7 has been closed between Springs Junction and Reefton, with helicopters and several emergency crews still on scene.
