Authorities will be keeping a close eye on the changing tide as rain continues to soak the Coromandel

Authorities will be keeping a close eye on the changing tide as rain continues to soak the Coromandel

Rain is continuing to fall on the already drenched region which received over 200 millimetres overnight.

Multiple sections of State Highway 25 have been shut due to flooding and slips, cutting off many communities on the Peninsula.

Thames Coromandel Civil Defence Controller Garry Towler says high tide around seven o'clock tonight could cause more flooding in urban and rural areas.

He says it will push water up into already full catchments with more rain on the way.
