Brace for a slow journey on wet roads if you're heading home from your summer holiday today

Brace for a slow journey on wet roads if you're heading home from your summer holiday today

Many roads are still affected by this week's bad weather -- with speed restrictions in place on sections of State Highway 25 on the Coromandel Peninsula.

State Highway 1 from Bombay to Manukau is likely to busy all day, slowing to a crawl between 2pm and 6pm.

Other highways could also get busy for periods this afternoon -- particularly State Highway One from Ashburton to Christchurch.

Brake's Caroline Perry says the advice to motorists is simple.

She says people should plan their journey, allow time to get to their destination, and take regular breaks every few hours if they're on a long journey.

Seven people have been injured -- two critically -- after two separate crashes in the Coromandel and Bay of Plenty yesterday.
