A new service looks to help tackle methamphetamine addiction in Southland

A new service looks to help tackle methamphetamine addiction in Southland

Te Whatu Ora Southern is contracting Nga Kete Matauranga Pounamu Charitable Trust in Invercargill to run the service - called Hiwa-i-te-rangi - from later this month.

The treatments will include therapeutic interventions, in which clients are taken to places including the bush and marae, counselling, group sessions and a community withdrawal programmes.

Te Whatu Ora Southern says it will provide culturally appropriate services closer to home, for people with moderate to severe addiction issues - with meth being a significant focus.
