About a third of Queenstown Cemetery has been affected by the severe weather event..

The State of Emergency in the resort town has been lifted, but the cemetery remains closed due to public safety.

Debris is lying across the cemetery surface, in the north-east section, but no below-ground disturbance is visible.

    Some headstones have been displaced.

Fencing will be placed around the affected area, and once it's up, the rest of the cemetery will reopen.
