The Lower Hutt community is in shock, following the death of two people in separate violent incidents

A woman died yesterday morning after being struck by a vehicle believed to be stolen, in Naenae .

The vehicle has since been recovered, but Police are still hunting the driver connected to the alleged hit and run.

Later in the day, Police fatally shot a man who had held a weapon to his partner's neck, on Coast Road in Wainuiomata.

Hutt City Mayor Campbell Barry says there's been a lot of upset over the community, in the past 24 hours.

He says it's important to note these are very unusual, and don't happen very often.
