An early obstacle for the defending champion Central Stags in the opening round of cricket's Ford Trophy this morning

Regular captain Tom Bruce and all-rounder Doug Bracewell are likely to miss today's contest against Northern Districts in Nelson due to injury.

But fellow all-rounder Josh Clarkson has faith in his side's depth.



First ball between CD and ND is at 10.30am - the same start time for Canterbury's clash with Wellington in Christchurch and Otago's match against Auckland in Invercargill.

Also three matches today in the domestic women's one-day comp - the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield.
