An assurance the weekend brawl in Gisborne was NOT due to gang rivalry

An assurance the weekend brawl in Gisborne was NOT due to gang rivalry

Two men are dead and another three in hospital after a brawl broke out at a 21st birthday party, on Saturday night in the suburb of Elgin .

One of the three, a 30-year-old is in a critical condition.

It's believed they all suffered stab wounds.

Gisborne Councillor Colin Alder says while the fight wasn't because of a gang rivalry, gang members were involved.

He says the event was spurred on by alcohol and possibly drugs, with a tragic result.
