A Tauranga man has been sentenced for having thousands of child sexual abuse and exploitation material

A Tauranga man has been sentenced for having thousands of child sexual abuse and exploitation material

The 67-year-old has three months home detention after pleading guilty to possessing objectionable images.

He was found to have actively searched for more than eight-thousand images between October 2021 and August 2022.

Internal Affairs Digital Child Exploitation Team manager, Tim Houston, says the offender claims he didn't want to abuse children, but having the images encourages abuse.
