A jury has returned a mixed verdict in the rape trial for two RSE workers in Tauranga

A jury has returned a mixed verdict in the rape trial for two RSE workers in Tauranga

The two workers from Vanuatu had been on trial for the rape and sexual violation of a woman at their shared accommodation in 2020.

Open Justice reports the first worker kissed the woman consensually, which then progressed to consensual sex, which she claimed was rape.

The woman says after the first encounter, she was then raped by the second worker, and was able to escape through a window.

The first worker was acquitted of rape and sexual violation, and the second was found guilty of rape, but acquitted on two charges of sexual violation.
