Cynthia Erivo hasn't "retired" green from her wardrobe

The 38-year-old singer-and-actress honoured her character Elphaba by frequently wearing the colour during the press tour for Wicked last year, but she hasn't been seen in the hue this year while promoting follow-up Wicked: For Good, and she's explained it was time for an "evolution".

Speaking on Today, she said: "I haven't retired it completely, I just haven't worn it as much this time around, because I don't know, we wanted an evolution for her [Elphaba].

"We wore [green] a couple times through the [first] tour. This time we didn't wear it at all."

Cynthia promised she'll be back in green in the future.

She added: "This isn't the last time you'll see green on me. It's actually one of my favourite colours, but it wasn't right for this time around."

In August, Cynthia admitted she had been "very picky" about her wardrobe for her Wicked: For Good press tour.

She told People magazine: "Everything was really thought out, and that's the way we always are.

"We're very picky, selective about what we put on and what we're wearing, and the story we're telling.

"And more than anything we try and have a really good time doing it.

"If it doesn't feel good to wear, we're not wearing it. And if I love it and it feels good, then I'll be wearing it. And it can be as avant-garde or as classic as it wants to be, as long as we know what story we're telling, and it feels good to tell that story, then I'll be in it.

" We have a good time. And hopefully, we'll be having a good time this time round as well."

Cynthia previously told how her portrayal of Elphaba has been impacting on her red carpet style over the last few months.

She told E!: "Green is Elphaba's skin color, but what she wears a lot is black, so I've been trying to mess around with the shapes and the structure of different kinds of black dresses.

"We've been playing around with it and bringing green in occasionally."

She also previously told how she and her nail artist Rose Hackle have deliberately chosen for her to have long pointed acrylics as a " nod to my culture and a nod to the character"after the original Wicked Witch of the West, Margaret Hamilton, sported lengthy talons in photos.

She told Marie Claire magazine: "I knew I wanted Elphaba to have a full set... What we did was create a nail that felt like it wasn't just a nail that was done for her, but came from her genetic make-up.

"In the second movie, they're much longer, much more expressive. We're playing with the marbling of it, we're playing with ombré."
