Josh Junior's become the first Kiwi sailor to win the Finn Gold Cup in Melbourne, finishing seventh in the final medal race to win by six points.

Junior hopes it gives him the edge over Andy Maloney for the Olympic spot.

Maloney finished sixth at the world champs.
