Kapiti Coast officials are waiting with bated breath as the rain continues to fall across the region

Kapiti Coast officials are waiting with bated breath as the rain continues to fall across the region

Wider Wellington received up to 25 millimetres of rain an hour between five and eight-am.

Last night, heavy rain caused a slip on the Kapiti Coast, temporarily cutting off 25 families in the Maungakotukutuku Valley ... as well as widespread surface flooding.

District Mayor K Gurunathan says they're now watching Mangaone Stream in Otaki closely, as it could block nearby residents in.

He says it could cut off the Te Horo village completely.
