A beachside community in Christchurch is wanting a temporary ban on freedom camping

A beachside community in Christchurch is wanting a temporary ban on freedom camping

A petition has been launched, calling on the Christchurch City Council's chief executive to take the action on the North Beach foreshore car park.

Coastal Ward Community Board member Jo Zervos says it's hard to access community facilities due to the number of freedom campers staying there.

She says the spot has been getting increasingly more popular.

Zervos says the concerns were there before Covid, but they're only seeing them come back now.
