Two women involved in a 2004 Auckland cold case say the police investigation was bungled from the beginning

Two women involved in a 2004 Auckland cold case say the police investigation was bungled from the beginning

The pair claimed they'd been kidnapped when they were teens and sexually assaulted in a van over three days, by four men.

Police reopened the case in December but say they've reached the same conclusion - that there isn't enough evidence to prosecute anyone.

One of the women, now 36-year-old Makere Edmonds-Piripi, says a key witness was never found or interviewed and evidence of the 111 call no longer exists.

She says three of the suspects were never spoken to - and claims the investigation would look a lot different if police had done more from the beginning.
