Police are investigating an unexplained death after a person was found unresponsive in the water in Rotorua's Waiotapu

Emergency services were alerted to an incident about 6.15am near Waiotapu Loop Road.

Police say enquiries are now underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and a scene examination will take place this morning.

They say one person is currently assisting with enquiries.
