    Insurers are getting increasingly sophisticated about where they offer cover - particularly in areas most affected by climate risks


    AA Insurance has told Buller District Council it's temporarily halting new property policies in Westport, due to flood risk.

    MinterEllisonRuddWatts insurance partner Andy Horne says similar decisions were seen during last year's California wildfires - where insurers cancelled cover in high fire risk areas.

    He says they managed to accurately identify the areas most likely to burn.
