An Auckland couple continued buying stolen crayfish, despite knowing it was likely illegal

Open Justice reports Siisavaii Lelei Faavaoga and her husband Lance Dela Cruz received 850 live crays in 2024, flown from Dunedin.

The theft began at Fiordland Lobster Company in Sawyers Bay, where assistant manager Nicola Nevard stole nearly 16-hundred crayfish worth over 200-thousand dollars, supplying Faavaoga's brother Paul and others.

Faavaoga and Dela Cruz have been sentenced to six months' community detention and fined two thousand and five hundred dollars.
