Phil Goff says he wants Auckland Council to lead by example by cutting carbon emissions

Phil Goff says he wants Auckland Council to lead by example by cutting carbon emissions

The mayor's annual budget proposal was received by the Council's Finance and Performance Committee yesterday.

In it, he sets out initiatives - such as turning the car fleet electric - to reduce the council's emissions by 20 percent.

Goff says if every private company in Auckland was to cut their emissions by 20 percent in the next few years, that would make a real dent.

His proposal also includes a 2.7 billion dollar capital spend, reducing public transport fares for school children and extending the living wage to cleaners.
