    Hamilton Police have rescued at least two people from the Waikato River in the past few days


    They are urging people to be careful as the weather improves and more people are taking a dip.

    Police say the river has whirlpools, strong currents and foreign objects and can be dangerous.

    Hamilton City Area Commander Andrea Macbeth says people need to swim safely.

    She says they want everyone to be able to go home for Christmas.
