Rory McIlroy's Masters hopes could have evaporated after a disastrous finish to the first round at Augusta

Rory McIlroy's Masters hopes could have evaporated after a disastrous finish to the first round at Augusta

The Northern Irishman, again seeking the career slam that he's been chasing since 2014, faded late in the first round with two double-bogeys.

McIlroy had been in the mix at four-under-par before the blemishes saw him since sink to an even-par round and a share of 27th.

England's Justin Rose has the lead at seven-under, with US world number one Scottie Scheffler in a group sharing second three strokes back.
