    Wet weather could put a dampener on enjoying swimming spots this summer


    The organisation Land Air Water Aotearoa looks at the water quality of 800 river, lake and beach spots across the country.

    They then rank it in a specific area using a traffic light system, and post it on their website.

    Water Quality Scientist Anna Madarasz-Smith says periods of rain can wash contaminants in waterways -- making areas unsuitable for swimming.

    She says enjoying water is a great way to spend Christmas.
