An exchange between two cars in Auckland's Manurewa early this morning has left one person dead and another critically injured

Police were pursing two cars and say one vehicle hit the other causing it to leave the road and hit a tree - killing its passenger and leaving the driver in a critical condition.

NZ Herald reporter Rachel Maher says more information's to come.

She says there're a lot of different elements and it's not an average car crash.
